WordPress 2.5 Is Here
by admin
We have all been waiting for the next version of WordPress. It was promised for last Monday but there were still some things that were unfinished… until today when Matt put out the 2.5 Sneak Peek.
Note that this is rc1, meaning Release Candidate 1, so personally I would not use this for production purposes It is basically a beta version, the final version should be released on the 24th of March. However, Why not set up a local server and try out all the new features of this update.
What are the new features, I hear you say, well here they are:
- Completely rebuilt: This is not a patched v2.3.3, it has been completely rebuilt, this means a lot of bugs have been squashed but new bugs may have been created.
- A customizable dashboard: The dashboard is now more task orientated and has a better color scheme.
- Multi-file upload.
- Built-in galleries.
- Tag management.
- Built-in Gravatars.
- Full text feeds.
- Faster load times.
- One-click auto-update for plugins.
No doubt there are changes in the theme creation department, so I shall be spending the next couple of days hunting down any template differences and will report back here on what they are. I shall also add them to the upcoming theme creation ebook.

I feel wordpress is really work it to improve the features and up to date with the IT compare to blogspot.
Yea, but we might have to wait a little till all the plugins we use will get compatible versions with WP 2.5. At least till 2.5.1 will be out
Why is there no version 2.4 ??
@Felex: Each platform has it’s uses - even Blogger.
@Mike: Yeah… there’s a few like popularity contest, but the stable version of WP isn’t out yet so I’m not that worried yet
@Vincent: Originally 2.4 was due for Dec/Jan but there were so many updates that they decided to skip it and go straight to 2.5.
Hmmm, I wouldn’t try it out if it will be released this 24th. Might destroy my blog. And I don’t have any other host to play around with
@Marc: I expressed exactly the same feelings in the post, I’m still waiting for the stable version and compatible plugins. In the meantime I am redoing this theme to take advantage of the new features.
