StumbleUpon Plugin For WordPress

by admin

The other day, I was happily Stumbling along, looking at sites. Up came Blogging-ads, I read the article, got to the bottom of it and there was a box there saying "Welcome Stumbler…" Essentially it was a call to action to give the post a thumbs up. Being lazy I contacted Mike and he said it was called Increase Sociability, so off I went and got it.

I have installed this plugin to see if it gives me better Stumbles. The one flaw I see is that a post has to be both:

  • Stumbled already
  • You see the page while Stumbling

What would be more benefical, I think, is a plugin that detects if you are a Stumbler in the first place. This may get more of your pages Stumbled in the first place. So I have started to write such a plugin. I was hoping that I could finish it for today, but other things have cropped up. I should have it working before the end of the year.

In the meantime give Increase Sociability a try, it also does the same for Digg.

  2. Thanks for the mention !

I don’t think it’s possible to implement the changes that you mention. I don’t think there is a way to really detect if someone has the SU plugin installed.

    Merry Christmas !

  3. @ Louie: Neither can I ;)

@Becky: I have working code that does it in FireFox, the main hassle is creating the plugin. It’s my first one so I’m doing a lot of reading about WP hooks etc.

  5. @Mike: I’m still using the Increase Sociability, but my plugin is coming along okay. I’ve been coding for the last hour or so.

  8. Damnit this isn’t working with my plugin. Looks like I need to go into the wp files and see if I screwed up while creating my theme. Thanks for the post!

  10. No, been busy cleaning up the house since family are coming over from TN for the weekend.

I’ve got time to mess with it before going to the airport tomorrow so I’m going to try then :). My blog needs a whole week of re-tweaking!
