November Traffic Report

by admin

While others are bragging about how much money they have made out of you, I will show you how you have helped grow this site.

Actions for November

The site was started on 22nd October, I did no promotion of the site and concentrated on designing the theme and creating some posts. So as far as the world is concerned this site was born on the 1st of November and I started promoting via Blogging Zoom and adding the blog to various directories. I also started commenting on other blogs about two weeks ago. I also joined with EntreCard and this last weekend I got accepted at rssHugger.

Visitors

In November there have been 510 unique visitors from 43 countries, the top five being US, UK, Canada, Phillippines and Malaysia. They have viewed 1016 pages over 632 visits at an average of 1.61 per visitor and a 70.41% Bounce rate. I had 80.54% new visitors since last month.

Traffic Sources

Amazingly only one visit was from the search engines, in this case Google.

  • Direct Sources - 12.5% (79)
  • Search Engine - 0.16% (1)
  • Referring Sites (87.34%) have been my saviour, they have provided all other traffic as follows:

I started with Blogging Zoom at the start of the month. I have submitted 19 pages, 13 of which were from this site and 6 were pages that I liked from other bloggers. For my posts I had a total of 143 votes but only 63 of them actually visited the site. While this may show either confidence in my writting or just plain lazyness I feel saddened. Any page I have voted for, I have visited first and decided if it is worth a vote.

Next up is EntreCard, this has been gold. If you haven’t joined up yet do so right now! I joined 7 days ago and have had 219 unique visitors, 28 of them being visitors that clicked on my ads. The atmosphere there is great and at the moment everybody seems to be working with each other - leaving comments on blogs, BZ’ing posts, Stumbling posts and I have started adding good post to my Technorati faves. All of this has brought additional traffic, this time around from StumblUpon.

Somebody Stumbled one of my posts (rss everything you want to know) on, I think Friday. This has produced 170 unique visitors - my first stumble.

I did try the Stumblexchange but found it to be crap to use, it takes literally 10-15mins to generate a list of 10 others to stumble. I did about 20 of them and only 7 returned the stumbles. Though StumbleUpon are aware of it and let it go on, I felt a bit shadey using it and the results were rubbish so I shall not be using it again.

Backlinks

november backlinks
This is confusing, I used www.xinureturns.com to get some stats (see image). Google shows 0 yet web master tools show 84! The others show 300+.

Rankings

Nothing surprising here for a 6 week old site:

  • Google PR - 0
  • Technorati - rank 962,510 and authority 8
  • Alexa 729,215 (I’m not using the toolbar)

RSS subscriptions

I use FeedBurner and started the month with 2 and it “wobbles” between 16 and 23 subscribers.

Now on to the geeky stuff.

Browsers

I was pleasantly surprised here by FireFox, good to see my visitors are web-savy.

  • FireFox - 84.49%
  • MSIE - 12.18% with a 50/50 split between v6 and 7
  • Opera - 1.58%
  • Safari - 1.42%
  • Mozilla - 0.32%

Operating Systems

As expected Windows was top dog, in fact the distribution is pretty close to world stats.

  • Windows - 89.24%
  • Macs - 7.91%
  • Linux - 2.69%

Screen Resolution

I designed for 1024×768. This month this was the minimum resolution and maximum views with 28.32%. Nobody yet with 800×600?

Income

I’m not planning for any heavy monetizing of this blog for at least 3 months it all depends on traffic. Even then it will be to cover running costs. If I want to make money blogging I will create a blog for that purpose. Having said that I have signed up with Scratch Back so that if visitors want to donate, they can and they get some benefit out of it as well. Two people bought spaces (thanks guys) and I made $1.60 before PayPal charges.

November has been inspiring and hectic and I have produced only 12 posts for the month (to make a total of 16) so I am quite pleased with the results. So I offer a big THANK YOU to all of you that visited in November, it is trully appreciated, this site is nothing without you.

December Actions

This month, I am getting more organized in my postings, I’m aiming for a Minimum of 16. I finally got image uploading working (php variable was blank by default!) so expect to see finally see some images in my posts, that should tart things up a bit. I want to do some article marketing and I need to get some SE traffic, 1 visit is pretty pathetic. I will also be doing a mutual guest blog soon (stuff has to be written), I’m excited/scared about this but look forward to the experience and welcome any other offers.

  1. I like your thinking. They supposedly make all this money. I appreciate that you look at your success as a product of your readers.

  3. November Traffic Report | CK Marketing…

I was just surfing through the net when I came accross this very detailed report by Colin King at CK marketing.

It’s good to see the big blogs getting one million unique visitors per day but it’s even better to see us the new web 2.0 crowd making mi…

  4. @Debo Hobo: Thx, I can’t see any other way of looking at it. Yesterday while going thru google reader it just hit me how many blogs were saying “Look how much I made” and only a few mentioned or thanked those that gave that money - and it really bugged me.

@turtie: Thx and I’ll check your blog out :).

  5. Don’t worry your earnings will go up after couple of months if you continue to provide quality content, patience is the key

  6. Wow that was a great idea publishing your blog stats, something I had contemplated doing after my first month of running my blog. I enjoy reading it because I can compare with my own stats and learn from yours.

As far as people on sites such as BloggingZoom (which I have yet to join, will get around to it probably this weekend after I get more organized) just placing votes without visiting your site. It’s probably laziness and people just voting to get another vote back on their blog. I also try to visit the websites on similar networks to maintain the integrity of the blogosphere, and to make sure I’m not promoting something that I don’t want to be promoting.

As far as EntreCard goes, it has become my favorite widget so far. It has produced a lot of visitors, and commentators. I actually discovered your blog via EntreCard, and I really enjoy it so I check back regularly, drop my card here, and also have subscribed to your feed via my Google Reader account. Also, I don’t know if someone else did a stumble but I know I did stumble one of your articles the other day, if not your main page ;-) –I noticed those stumbles bring in a lot of visitors; unfortunately, don’t bring in nearly as many RSS subscribers.

Speaking of RSS subscribers, that’s where I’m having the most difficulty. I am having trouble in the short lifespan of my blog getting people to subscribe to my RSS feed. It just doesn’t match up with the amount of traffic flowing through my site. I probably just need to populate the site more and wait.

Anyways, great post and I’ll look forward to reading december’s stats! It’ll also be exciting to see how much they improve.

  7. On the toolbar installed for FF I show your Alexa rank as 490,378- I know they did an update yesterday on mine so you may want to check again. Google backlinks are very rarely correct and I hold no credit to those. As long as you’re receiving traffic via Google searches-that is what matters. And funny thing- our browser stats are the opposite. 85% of my readers use IE while 9% use FF. I would think the numbers would be reversed.

  8. Interesting way to look at this. Its really nice to gauge traffic and thank the people who helped you get there.

  9. @xicom: At the beginnig of the Nov. I didn’t think I would be posting any stats because I thought they would be pretty sad. Yesterday I looked at the stats and their still sad in comparison to 99% of bloggers, but I was suprised and pleased. So I posted ‘em. :)
@Maher Saleh: I’m not really bothered that much about this blog being a money-maker. I do that in other ways ;)

@Beth: I just checked and MSIE is down to 10.15% and your right about Alexa :) Technorati - rank is now 487,964 and auth is 17. It may be ‘cos of the sudden surge of traffic in the last 2-3 days. rss is down to 15 today!! All that in 20 hrs.

@Bruce: The last 2wks in Oct the site got between 0-5 visits a day - that was me and the site went nowhere, Nov, you guys decided to come and look what happened to my stats. How can I be anything but thankful? :)

  10. Here is a suggestion to everyone-sign up at rssHugger.com wait for the approval which is pretty fast, then Stumble your own RSS panel. Matthew from Blog About Your Blog gave me this suggestion and it works! The rssHugger service sucks as far as “promoting your feed” as it claims it will do, because there is no actual way to promote it unless you happen to show up in a random surf or in search results. He Stumbled mine yesterday and I recovered 12 of the 15 readers I had lost.

  11. Hi Bruce, thanks for posting his. To be frank, I’ve never analyze closely even though I’m using Google-analytics. This post has inspire me.

  12. I guess for a 6 week website the traffic is quite nice, but for 50$ i managed using adBrite full page ads a nice 50k unique visitors.. and even if few of them have registered it is still a win-win situation. My Alexa rank had few days ago a 700% increase and just for 50$. There are many blog owners that will ask you 50$ for a good article on theyr blogs.. but will they give you a 50,000 unique visits?

  13. I found your site via entrecard, and having been visiting every other day since. I especially appreciated this post. I have lost steam with my own blog due to a mix of frustration with traffic building, and writer’s burnout!!!! Right now my entrecard promotes my Postcard Marketing Million Dollor Wiki Page. My plan is to take the holiday to read up on what others are doing, to rethink my blog, and to come up with a plan of action. Thanks for the good work.

  14. Hey guys I’m Colin not Bruce ;)

@Beth: Good idea, I’ve had only about 5 rssHuggers come by.

@ArahMan7: I know it might take some time to learn in the beginning but you gotta analyze so you can measure your success.

@Hodirlan Cristian: Interesting… your Alexa rank shows 824,164, how many subscribers did you get for $50?

@Anna Roman-Mercado: Another ecard inmate ;) welcome. Your site is nice and clean. Have a look at my last Wednesday’s post - it is all about getting organized with some great links.

  17. Hey Colin, I’m not sure if you already know this, but if you’re still trying to figure out how to find out how many backlinks google has counted for your site, try using google webmaster tools. That will give you a more detailed look into how google views your site.

Scribbled by jblu on 16/12/07 at 5:59 am
  18. @ jblu: I’ve got WM tools as well as GA. All show diff numbers. If I search link:site - 0 show up, in WMT > links it shows 1105 - Big G says both 0 and 1105! That’s my confusion.
