New Traffic Source and Some Pocket Money

by admin

Site Changes

If you have been here before, you may notice some layout changes. I felt that the site was just too green, so I’ve changed the background to a blue-white gradient. Let me know what you think…

Comments: This is a DoFollow site, it has been since almost day one. In the last couple of days I’ve had some junk-comments left linking back to spammy and/or obnoxious sites. No problem, I’ve deleted them - but I’ve added a Comment Policy Page so things are clear for prospective commentators. It’s always the few… I have also made it a little more obvious that this is a DoFollow site and I have now joined Andy Beard’s DoFollow group over at BumpZee.

I have also made the sidebar wider (200px) to make way for EntreCard and ScratchBack, so I’ll go ahead and tell you about them now…

EntreCard

Want more traffic? Here’s a new program by the name of Entre Card 2.0, it’s supposed to be the business card for the web. You create a 125×125px image for your ecard then go and signup for free.

The system works on a credit basis. You visit sites that display an ecard and click on them - the site and you each earn a credit. You then use these credits to buy a days advertising on one of the participating sites. You do this by going into the “Campaign” area on the main site, sites are split up into a number of categories.

In the “Dashboard” area of the site you will see who clicked on your ecard and who wants to advertise on your site. You can reject an advertiser’s offer, you have to give a reason why. These are from a drop down and in my opinion some sound a bit harsh and I think there should be a text area as well in case your reason is not on the list.

I registered about two hours ago and already I’ve had about 15 card droppers and I have signed up advertisers for the next 6 days. I think it’s worthwhile for the little effort as does John Chow! Go ahead and signup. I’ll give it a week and will report back as to how much traffic that has come from the ecard.

ScratchBack

This is another widget that’s fun to use. It’s kind of like the "Buy me a Beer" thingies that were popular a while back, except in this case the tipper gets a perk too.

As a visitor you can buy a one line entry in the TopSpot widget at varying prices. The line can be a link to anywhere - your blog, an affiliate site or whatever. As it fills up the the first one in gets bumped off. So if the site is popular your link might be visible for a day or less. On less popular sites it will be there longer. The link has a nofollow on it so you won’t be penalised by Google.

Don’t think of this as a traffic generator, though you should get some, it’s really meant to be more of a tip jar, showing your appreciation of the site.

I don’t look at it as a money-earner, a line is only a dollar, more a bit of fun and see if anyone likes what I’m doing here. It’s easy enough to signup. After signing up you "create" your widget from a set of premade templates, download the resulting code and upload it to your site. If you don’t like any of the designs you can download the template and design your own.

Payouts are made via PayPal ONLY and during the beta period you get 90% of the takings after PayPal have their cut. You can set whatever price you like per line and have a set period of time for the link to remain or as new entries are made you can have lines bumped off. It’s your choice.

Well, this site has been up for about 5 weeks and it’s changing, just some tweaks. I’ve had some spammy comments recently and I’ve changed things around to deal with them.

I have also signed up with EntreCard and ScratchBack, not so much for the mo…

  2. Hi all,
I’ve not seen this blog before but at this moment I like the layout and color scheme. I have been with entrecard for a couple of weeks now and it does actually bring in some real visitors.
Just yesterday I had a comment on my blog letting me know he found me through entrecard.
I only visited a few sites in the beginning to make enough credits to get advertised on about 4 sites, since then i’ve had over 90 cards dropped on me and I think i’m now advertising on around 8 sites.
It’s not a one thing you can rely on but it does bring in a trickle of new visitors but I think as time goes on it will bring more and more visitors seeking your content as the ads become more expensive (in credits).
I’ll drop my card on you although I am only a news blog, I except most advertising on entrecard so if you want a day on mine you got it, i’m at around 18 credits a day which isn’t too bad considering some are over 60 a day.
I look forward to your findings after you’ve been with them a while and will pop back to check your other articles.

Just thought i’d mention the text on the left hand side of the screen is so tight it cuts off the first letter of each line, this could be simply down to my small screen size, if so ignore my comment but if it’s happening to others you may want to move it over by a couple of pixels. Probably just me and my old pc,lol.

  3. just found this site on bloggingzoom and the first thing you do is introduce me to the entrecard.
it is hard trying to write for yourself but if you can get a few visitors in the beginning, you would be more likely to blog more.

thanks and I’ve just joined through your link.

  4. @Tony: Thx for the comps :) If you want to advertise here see my offer in the ecard forums. The theme was designed for 1024×768 as of today you’re my 1st at a lower res. What browser/platform are you using?

@success blogger: Go join ecard and get involved with the community, it pays dividends in traffic (see my latest post).

  5. Came across your site a while back, and always a reader through the email subs.

Things have been somewhat challenging personally recently, but since Christmas I have been getting my site back up and running and really enthused about it again.

I have gained much valuable info from your site, and your post this morning on Real Traffic was really interesting.

But I came across your Scratchback link, so hence why I ended up here.

Defiantly going to give this a look.

Im not always active in comments, not sure why. But again recently, I have found my writing spark and now enjoying it, your site is a regular in my inbox so I see me coming back with comments more often.
